The Widal test measures the presence of specific antibodies in the blood against the bacteria *Salmonella typhi* and *Salmonella paratyphi*, which cause typhoid fever and paratyphoid fever. This test detects the agglutination reactions of the O and H antigens of these bacteria, helping diagnose typhoid and paratyphoid infections. Elevated antibody levels can indicate an active infection or past exposure, but the test may also yield false positives or negatives, so it is often used in conjunction with other diagnostic methods.
