Cardiolipin Antibodies IgG / Serum is a blood test used to detect IgG-type autoantibodies directed against cardiolipin, a type of phospholipid found in cell membranes. These antibodies are produced when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues. They are commonly associated with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), an autoimmune condition that increases the risk of abnormal blood clot formation. This test is particularly useful for patients with a history of recurrent blood clots (thrombosis), repeated miscarriages, or unexplained pregnancy complications. Among the different types, IgG antibodies are considered more clinically significant as they may indicate a higher and more persistent risk. The test is performed using a serum sample, and fasting is not required. If the result is positive, doctors usually recommend repeat testing after 12 weeks for confirmation and further clinical evaluation.
