Phospholipid IgG Antibodies are a type of autoantibodies (IgG class) that target phospholipids, which are essential components of cell membranes. These antibodies are produced when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own cells. They are commonly associated with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), a condition that increases the risk of abnormal blood clot formation. The presence of Phospholipid IgG antibodies can lead to thrombosis (blood clots) in veins or arteries and may also be linked to recurrent miscarriages and other pregnancy complications. Among different antibody types, IgG is considered more clinically significant because it often indicates a higher and more persistent risk. This test is performed using a blood sample, and fasting is usually not required. If detected, doctors may recommend repeat testing after 12 weeks to confirm persistence and guide appropriate treatment, such as anticoagulant therapy.
