This fragment is released into the bloodstream when epithelial cells, particularly those in tumors, break down. Elevated levels of CYFRA 21.1 are primarily associated with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and can also be indicative of other cancers such as bladder cancer. Measuring CYFRA 21.1 helps in diagnosing, monitoring treatment response, detecting recurrences, and evaluating the prognosis of cancer patients.
