The HBsAg ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) test detects the presence of Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in the blood. HBsAg is a protein on the surface of the Hepatitis B virus, indicating active infection. This test is used to diagnose acute or chronic Hepatitis B infection. A positive result suggests that the person is currently infected with the virus, while a negative result indicates the absence of HBsAg, suggesting no current Hepatitis B infection.
