Anti-phospholipid antibodies (IgG) measure the presence of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies that target phospholipids, which are crucial components of cell membranes involved in blood clotting. Elevated levels of anti-phospholipid IgG antibodies are associated with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), an autoimmune disorder that increases the risk of abnormal blood clotting, pregnancy complications (such as recurrent miscarriages or stillbirths), and other vascular issues. The presence of these antibodies can disrupt normal blood clotting processes. The test helps diagnose APS, assess the risk of clotting disorders, and guide treatment, especially in individuals with unexplained thrombotic events or recurrent pregnancy loss.
