Cardiolipin Antibodies IgM is a blood test that detects IgM-type autoantibodies directed against cardiolipin, a phospholipid present in cell membranes. These antibodies are produced when the immune system mistakenly attacks normal body components. They are commonly associated with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), a condition that increases the risk of abnormal blood clotting. The presence of IgM cardiolipin antibodies may be linked to thrombosis (blood clots), recurrent pregnancy loss, or other complications, although IgM is generally considered less specific than IgG. Sometimes, these antibodies can appear temporarily due to infections or certain medications. The test is performed on a blood sample, and fasting is not required. If results are positive, doctors often recommend repeat testing after 12 weeks to confirm persistence and assess clinical significance for proper diagnosis and management.
