The TB platinum test, also known as the QuantiFERON-TB Gold test, measures the immune response to specific proteins from *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*, the bacteria that causes tuberculosis (TB). It is a type of interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) used to diagnose latent TB infection. During the test, a blood sample is exposed to these specific TB antigens, and the amount of interferon-gamma produced by T-cells in response is measured. Elevated levels of interferon-gamma indicate a positive response, suggesting that the person has been exposed to TB and has an immune response to it, even if they do not have active TB disease. This test is useful for detecting latent TB infection, particularly in individuals who have a negative result from a traditional tuberculin skin test (TST).
