The Dengue NS1 test measures the presence of the Dengue virus non-structural protein 1 (NS1) antigen in the blood. NS1 is a protein produced by the dengue virus during the early stages of infection. This test is used to diagnose acute dengue fever, especially within the first few days of illness when NS1 levels are high. A positive Dengue NS1 test indicates an active dengue virus infection, while a negative result may require further testing, such as Dengue IgM and IgG antibody tests, to confirm the diagnosis. The NS1 test is valuable for early detection and timely management of dengue fever, helping to differentiate it from other febrile illnesses and guide appropriate treatment.
