tTG IgA test is a blood test commonly used to help diagnose Celiac Disease, an autoimmune disorder triggered by eating gluten. Gluten is a protein found in foods such as wheat, barley, and rye. In people with celiac disease, consuming gluten causes the immune system to attack the lining of the small intestine, leading to inflammation and damage. The tTG IgA test measures the level of IgA antibodies against the tissue transglutaminase enzyme in the blood. Elevated levels of these antibodies may indicate that the body is reacting to gluten and that the patient may have celiac disease. This test is considered one of the most reliable and widely used screening tests for detecting celiac disease. A simple blood sample is required for this test, and fasting is usually not necessary. If the test result is positive, doctors may recommend additional tests, such as an intestinal biopsy, to confirm the diagnosis.
