The Serum Ascites Albumin Gradient (SAAG) is a diagnostic test used to evaluate the cause of ascites, which is fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity. SAAG measures the difference in albumin concentration between the serum (blood) and the ascitic fluid (fluid in the abdominal cavity).

To perform the test, albumin levels in both the serum and ascitic fluid are compared.
